AURELIA, Iowa -- Dale K. Crane, 78, of rural Aurelia passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on March 18.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with the Rev. Bruce Rapp officiating. Burial will be in Afton Cemetery, rural Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.

Dale was born Nov. 5, 1927, in Cherokee County, Iowa, to Lew and Mae (Parks) Crane. He graduated from Aurelia High School in 1945.

He was married to Leone Ferris on June 4, 1950, in Cherokee. He had farmed for many years in Spring Township. He also owned and operated Crane Trucking, retiring in 2003. He had been a resident of Cherokee County all of his life.

He was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Farm to Market Trucking organization and several saddle clubs in the area. He and his wife hosted a trail ride in this area. He enjoyed walking the dog, riding mules and having coffee with friends.

He is survived by his wife, Leone; a son and his wife, Steven and Carla Crane of Aurelia; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Jim Berglund of Merrill, Iowa; four grandchildren, Shanda and Jason Schlechter, Dwight and Tara Berglund, Kelly and Brent Appleby and Keith Crane; three great-grandchildren, Evan Appleby, Macaib Appleby and Tristan Schlechter; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold "Bud" Crane; and two sisters, Vera Demaree and Betty Watt.
