CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Harlan J.H. Ruble, 76, of Cherokee passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at his residence following a one year illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, with the Revs. Jim Steen and Woody Clauson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.
Harlan was born Oct. 1, 1929, in Le Mars, Iowa, to Robert and Meta (Kleihauer) Ruble. He grew up and attended Le Mars schools.
He was married to Eleanor Heyl on Jan. 14, 1950, in Le Mars. He lived in Le Mars until 1958, when the couple moved to Cherokee. While living in Le Mars, he worked for a produce company and later at Zinn's Standard Station. He opened Ruble's Standard Service in Cherokee on March 17, 1958 and operated that business until February 1995, when he retired and sold the business to his son, Bruce.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He had been a volunteer member of the Le Mars and Cherokee Fire Departments for many years. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards with family and friends, watching old movies and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; two sons and their wives, Rory and Marsha Ruble of Holstein, Iowa, and Bruce and Connie Ruble of Cherokee; a daughter and her husbands, Debra and James Agnitsch of Cherokee; his mother, Meta Ruble of Le Mars; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Schmidt of Le Mars and Alvina and her husband, Milton Heyl of Sheldon, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Ruble.
