MURIEL J. HASENWINKEL, 85, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 14, 2006 at 11:50 PM at Countryside Estates in Cherokee following a lenghty illness. She was born April 27, 1921 in Cherokee County Iowa to John And Agnes (Scott) Blake. She attended Afton Township #2 school for 8 years and graduated from Aurelia High School in 1938. She continued her education at St. Joseph College of Nursing in Sioux City,Iowa graduating August 30, 1942. She married Raymond Hasenwinkel on Feb. 16, 1953 in Cherokee, Iowa. She worked as a surgical nurse at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee for 40 1/2 years serving as supervisor of surgery for many years, retiring in 1983. Muriel has resided in Countryside Estates since April of 1997. She had lived in Cherokee since 1985, prior to this on a farm in Silver Township. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond in Nov. 17, 1994; two brothers Rolan and Russell Blake, three brothers-in-law, Merlin and Leland Hasenwinkel and Wilmer Anderson; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Golnitz of Minnesota and Mary Ann Hasenwinkel of Cherokee. She is survived by one sister and one brother; Eleanor Anderson of Alta, Iowa and Donald Blake and his wife Annette of Cherokee, Iowa, One brother-in-law , Herbert Golnitz of Minnesota; four sisters-in-law, Donna Blake of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Peggy Blake, of Sheldon, Iowa; Francis Hasenwinkel of Aurelia, Iowa; and Emily Otte and her husband Elmer of Primghar, Iowa; one cousin, Marcella Scott of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota and many nieces and nephews.
