Neil V. Bredman, 70, of Iowa City and originally of Larrabee, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006 at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas following a sudden illness.

Funeral Services will be held at St. Mark's Methodist Church, 2675 East Washington St., Iowa City at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006 with Rev. Maria Wiblin and Rev. Tom Carver officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lensing's Oak Hill, Coralville, and after 10 a.m., Saturday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Neil was born Jan. 1, 1936 in Larrabee, the son of Victor Leonard and Nina Lucile Josephine Adams Bredman. He was a 1953 graduate of Larrabee High School and then attended Kirkwood Community College. On Sept. 7, 1959 he married Sandy Hahne at the Methodist Church in Holstein, Iowa.

Neil was a Data Base Administrator with the Iowa National Mutual Insurance Company in Cedar Rapids and then a Data Base Analyst at the UIHC Information Systems, retiring in 1999.

Neil was a member of St. Mark's Methodist Church, where he had served as an usher and greeter. Neil made friends with everyone he met. He touched the lives of many with his great sense of humor, his storytelling and his kind and gentle heart. Neil was an avid Hawkeye fan and supporter. He enjoyed traveling to Hawkeye basketball and football games and attended several bowl games. Neil lived life to the fullest and always enjoyed trying new adventures such as white water rafting and riding in a hot air balloon.

Neil and Sandy spent their retirement years enjoying the company of family and friends, traveling across the country sightseeing and gambling as some of their favorite activities.

Neil is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sandy, and their three children, Brett (Susan) Bredman of Cedar Falls and their son, Cody, Bonnie (Charles) Villhauer of Coralville and their daughter, Amber, and Bryan (Stephanie) Bredman of Shueyville and their children Nathan, Tiffany, Ben and Scott; one Great Grandchild, Taylor Jo; his sister-in-law, Karen (Bob) Tucker of Wellington, Fla.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents.
