Ruth H. Faber, 90, of Cherokee, Iowa, died Wednesday March 1, 2006, at her residence, following an extended illness.

Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Ruth was born August 5, 1915 on a farm near Lyle, Minnesota to Albert V. and Lillie (Demarest) Fierk. She moved to Aurelia, Iowa with her parents when Ruth was an infant. Ruth was educated in Aurelia, Iowa and graduated from Aurelia High School in 1932.

She worked for People’s Telephone Company as an operator for several years. On May 24, 1941 she married Arnold Faber in Cherokee, Iowa. He preceded her in death October 12, 1976. Ruth also was a clerk at the West Cedar Superette, was a part-time receptionist for Dr. Moore, and clerked for several years at J.C. Penney Co., in Cherokee, Iowa.

Ruth was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and the Ladies Union. She was a ready volunteer and assisted for many years with Mobile Meals, visiting the sick, Christian Women’s Club, and assisted with crafts at Careage Hills.

She belonged to several bridge groups, Marathon Bridge, and a craft group. Her other hobbies included walking, crocheting, and making bears, and the Red Derby Dames.

Survivors include her 3 children, Janice Hargadine, and her husband, Dale, of Oakdale, Minnesota; Andy Faber, of Grand Prairie, Texas; Don Faber, of Sioux City, Iowa; grandsons, Scott and Chris Zimmerman; granddaughters, Lisa Semlak, and her husband, Jim; Angela Zuehl, and her husband, Tim; Melissa Hames, and her husband, Mike; Diana Petersen and her husband, Miles; Elizabeth (Beth) Faber; great-grandsons, Carter Petersen; Nicholas Hames; Kyle Zimmerman; Matthew Semlak; twin great-granddaughters, Megan and Nicole Zuehl; a sister, Viola Allen, and her husband, Edgar, of Aurelia, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters, Mary Leeds (1987) Dorothy Byerly (Dec. 17, 1976) and a brother, Vernon Fierk (1989), a sister-in-law, Pauline Fierk (2006)
