Margaret Aringdale, 89, of Cherokee, Iowa died Friday, March 10, 2006 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.

Services will be held Monday at 11:00 A.M. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor James Steen will officiate. Burial will be in the Marathon Cemetery, Marathon, Iowa. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Margaret was born April 7, 1916 in Mallard, Iowa to Pete and Ruth A. (White) Smith.

She attended school in West Bend, Iowa, graduating from West Bend High School in 1935. On June 9, 1941 she married Harold W. Aringdale in Fulton, South Dakota.

He preceded her in death in 1977. Margaret worked as a switchboard operator for many years as she traveled with her husband to many locations as he worked to set up and improve the telephone lines. Margaret was very devoted to her family, enjoying the activities of her children and grandchildren. She was a very Christian woman and participated in Bible Study groups. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Survivors include stepsons; Duane Aringdale, of Marshalltown, Iowa, and his children, Randy, Rita, Renee; LaVerne Aringdale, and his wife, Sharon, of Charles City, Iowa, and their children, Robert and Shari; daughters, Julia McGee, and her husband, Paul, of Cherokee, Iowa, and their children, Troy and Tonya; Janice Schmillen, and her husband, Dick, of Cherokee, Iowa and their children, Michele, Stacy, Kristy, and Curtis; brother, Peter Smith, and his wife, Mavis, of Cushing, Iowa; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Johnson, and her husband, Marvin, of Newell, Iowa; Louise Olsen, and her husband, Otto, of Fort Dodge, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a 6 month old son (Cecil), a brother (Ben Aringdale) a sister (CoraBelle Smoot)
