Carol V. Irvine, 84, of Cherokee, died on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at 12:35 p.m. in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Memorial services are on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 2 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Paul A. Kaldahl is officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Carol was born on Aug. 20, 1922 at Hartley, to Fred and Anna (Marquardt) Boyens. She was raised by her adoptive parents Clarence and Hattie Johnston. She graduated from Primghar High School in 1940. She was married to Chester M. Dau on Sept. 5, 1940 at Gaza. He died in WW II. She was then married to Ross D. Irvine on March 5, 1949 at Sutherland. She was confirmed in the Bethel Lutheran Church in 1942. Carol had worked as a cook in the Primghar Public Schools, worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute for 18 years, and had worked at Speelmon's Steakhouse for a number of years. Her home was at 1121 Hill St. and had been a resident of Cherokee since 1959. Prior to this she had lived in Primghar and Gaza. She loved her home, spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and was especially looking forward to the birth of her first great great granddaughter in November. Carol liked to reminisce, enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, three brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her husband, Ross, two daughters and one son: Glenda Schleef of Cherokee; Connie Stratton of Chico, Calif.; Rick Irvine and his wife Cathy of Spokane, Wash.; 10 grandchildren: Terri and Edward Nelson; Shelley Urban; Robert Green; Billie Jo and Scott Banks; Doug Stratton; Diane and Guy Kettelson; Dawn and Jeff Dodd; Troy and Kelli Irvine; Heath Irvine and special friend Angie; Cami and Brian Hamilton; 22 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
