Geraldine (Jenness) Roby, 86, of Aurelia, and formerly of Cherokee, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, at 9:10 p.m. in the Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 7, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Gary Swick will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 until 9 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 6:30 until 8 p.m.

Geraldine was born Jan. 18, 1920 in Quimby, to Francis and Verna (McCorkel) Jenness. She graduated form Washta High School in 1937. She was married to Paul E. Roby on Dec. 5, 1937 at Sibley. She had resided in Sunset Knoll since 1998, prior to this in Cherokee and had also lived in Miles, Iowa, Shelbyville, Ill., and several other towns in Iowa. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Rebekah Lodge and the Garment Workers Union. Geraldine had worked as an owner and manager of a convenience store, a seamstress, and had also worked in various grocery stores, retiring in 1982. She enjoyed being with family and friends, doing puzzles, playing dominoes, and attending parties.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul on April 10, 1996, a grandson Gary Roby; five brothers Oliver, Erwin, Virgil, Howard, and Marlin Jenness and a sister Reta Fuhrman, also one brother and one sister in infancy.

She is survived by two sons: Wayne Roby and his wife Barbara of Kansas City, Mo.; Ron Roby and his wife Marcy of Burlington, Iowa; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren; two sisters and one brother: Ruby Webb and her husband Lester of Cherokee; Lois Pflugard of Port Angeles, Wash.; Merritt Jenness and his wife Velma of Marcus; many nieces and nephews.
