Cherokee Chronicle Times, Monday, August 28, 2006

Donald Glen James, 77, of Thornton, Colo. and formerly of Larrabee, died Monday evening Aug. 21, 2006, at his home in Thornton.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 1 p.m. at the Larrabee United Methodist Church. Rev. Dennis Hopes will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee. Mr. James was cremated. There will be no visitation. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee is in charge of the arrangements.

Glen was born on Dec. 25, 1928 at Middleton, Mo. to Jasper Glen and Flossie Marie (Oden) James. The family moved to northwest Iowa in 1935 to farm and raise livestock. While growing up, Don worked on the farm with his parents and played basketball and baseball in high school. He joined the local National Guard shortly after graduating from high school.

Don was married to Rebecca Anne Rice on June 7, 1953 in Cherokee. They had six children over the next ten years while moving several times before returning to Larrabee. Don worked for Skelly Oil, General Tire, and Great Western as a sales rep before opening D & B Galleries in Forest City with his wife Becky.

Through that business, they started Sport'en Art, a wholesale sales business which led them to Colorado in January of 1985. This business provided the opportunity to travel throughout the western part of the United States. Don and Becky sold the business in 1995 and somewhat retired, working various part-time jobs since then. A few of his passions that he shared with his family and friends were hunting, fishing and baseball. He loved to talk with people and always had a story ready to share.

He was preceded in death by his father Jasper Glen James, a son Douglas Kurt James and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife Rebecca Anne James of Thornton, Colo.; five children: Daniel Joe James and his wife Bonnie of Larrabee; Robert Allen James and his wife Elizabeth of Larrabee; Timothy Glen James and his wife Mary of Des Moines; Shelby Lee James and his wife Teresa of Thornton, Colo.; Marilynn Lynn Crider and her husband Randal of Broomfield, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; his mother Flossie Marie James of Aurelia; one brother Harold Joe James and his wife Bonnie of Monona.
