Cherokee Democrat July 17, 1895

Martin Harrington, an old resident of this county, and a well known character, died at his home in this city last Wednesday, aged about 78 years. The funeral occurred on Thursday from his residence, services being conducted by Rev. Coffman. The deceased was known chiefly by two things. He was an old soldier and was always in trouble. His chief trouble was over the fact that Uncle Sam didn’t pay him as much pension money as he thought he out to have. At the time of his death he was drawing only $30 a month. He leaves an aged wife. We believe no children were ever born to them. His death was sudden, caused no doubt by heart disease. He has been failing fast for some time, but was able to be around on the day of his death. Peace to the old man’s ashes.
