Another Good Citizen Gone

Mr. Thos. Dewar, died at the residence of Henry Clow on Sunday, May 1, 1892. The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W.L. Ferris, and the remains laid to rest in Wesleyan church cemetery. Mr. Dewar was among the older and well-known citizens of the county. About two years ago his wife passed away, and since that time, he has rapidly failed in health. A godly number of people from this city attended the funeral yesterday.

Thos. Dewar was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, August 19, 1839. He came to America in 1853, reaching Chicago July 1st of that year. From there he went in 1859 to Wheatland, Ill., where on October 29, 1863, he was united in marriage to Miss Laura Clows*. There was born to them six children-Magnie**, Thomas, Harry, Sara, Jennie and Laura, all except-Magnie and Jennie having survived their father and mother, the mother passing away two years ago the 29th of April. In 1880 Mr. Dewar and family removed to Cherokee county, where he has since resided, being 52 years, 8 months and 12 days old at the time of his death. He has been a good citizen in all that the word implies, upright and conscientious in all his dealings, beloved by all who knew him and entitled to the reward of the righteous.
