Death of Mrs. John Thomson

Last Monday night after a lingering illness, Mrs. John Thomson, who has lived for a number of years in what is known as the Scotch settlement, southwest of this city, quietly passed away. Consumption had been undermining her constitution for some time, but with fortitude and patience that are born of a sweet Christian temperament she bore her affliction without murmuring a complaint. Many were the hands that were willing render her service and share her burden. She was loved by a large circle of neighbors and friends who admired her for the gentleness and force of her character. “She cannot fail of peace who bore with her such peace away.” The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at her husband’s home in the county. A large company of friends assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed and five their full meed of sympathy to the bereaved husband and relatives. A few appropriate remarks were made by Rev. Campbell Coyle, pastor of the Presbyterian church of which Mrs. Thomson was a member. The remains were interred in Oak Hill Cemetery. The sympathy of the church and community is extended the bereaved husband and children in this their dark hour of sorrow.

The deceased was 33 years of age. She was born at Naperville, Ill., and has been a resident of Cherokee county eleven years. She was the moth of six children, five of whom are living.
