KILLED BY A KICK

Wm. Casey’s Life Ended in This Way

He was a well known Farmer and a Good Citizen-Particulars of the Sad Affair

Wm. F. Casey, a well-known farmer whose home was near Meriden, died on Friday evening from the effects of being kicked by one of his horses the Tuesday previous. On the afternoon of that day Mr. Casey was in the stable taking care of a horse that was afflicted with a sore neck. The horse kicked at him, striking him in the abdomen and knocking him down. He laid there nearly an hour before he regained consciousness. For a while he did not think he was seriously hurt and during the evening milked several cows and did most of his chores. During the night he grew worse and Dr. Hornibrook was sent for. Inflammation had set in and it was feared from the first that he would not be able to pull through. There was little change in his condition until early Friday morning, when he awoke from a sleep requesting to see his brother-in-law H.D. Gates. Mr. Gates was sent for, but before he could get there from this city the injured man was unconscious and could not talk to him. He did not really again and passed away at about 7:30 that evening, apparently without suffering.

The deceased was 43 years and 7 months of age. He was born in Jones county, this state, and has been a resident of this county about fifteen years. He leaves a wife and two daughters, one 6 years old, the other a baby about 18 months. He was an industrious and hard-working man—one who paid strict attention to his own affairs and was on the road to prosperity. His untimely death was a shock to the whole community.

The funeral occurred from the residence on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. W.L. Ferris, and the remains brought to Oak Hill for interment.
