Obituary - Doris Eileen (Enabnit) Ward
July 27, 1919 ~ July 25, 2002

Doris E. Ward, 82, of Greene, Iowa, died Thursday, July 25, 2002 at Liebe Care Center in Greene. Services will be 10:30a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Swaledale, Iowa. Burial in Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton, Iowa.

Doris Eileen Ward was born July 27, 1919, at Thornton to Earl and Ruth (Watson) Enabnit.She received her education & graduated from Mason City High School in 1936. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, then taught in rural schools in Cerro Gordon County, Iowa.

On Dec. 29, 1939,Doris married J.C. Ward in Des Moines, Iowa, following World War II, Doris and J.C. owned and operated Ward Locker in Swaledale until 1961. She then worked as secretary of the RockWell-Swaledale Middle School and later became superintendent secretary until 1975.

She lost her beloved J.C. in 1974. In 1975 she moved to Garner where she managed Prairie View Retirement Apartments for two years. In 1977 she became business manager and board secretary of Ventura Schools until she retired in 1986. She moved to Clear Lake, Iowa. Were she lived until her health failed her, and became a resident of Liebe Care Center in May 2000.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Swaledale, Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake. Faith was a important part of her life. She volunteered for Red Cross; the church library, enjoyed long walks and knitting, needlework and Christmas baking.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane Carl; son Rodney Ward, Steve and wife Sherri; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Orlyn and his wife Bethel; sister, Lucille of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by son-in-law, Donovan; a grandson Douglas.
