Obituary - Marla Maureen (King) Gaubatz

Marla M. GAUBATZ, 70, of Plymouth passed away Sunday (April 24, 2011) in Mason City with her family by her side.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday (April 28, 2011) at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth B. GEHLING as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Rock Falls Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening (April 27, 2011) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. where a Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service to follow.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left to Marla M. GAUBATZ Memorial Fund.

Marla Maureen KING was born on March 24, 1941 in Los Angeles, California, she was raised by her grandparents, Raymond and Stella KING. Marla attended high school and graduated from the Mason City High School.

On December 31, 1960 Marla was united in marriage to James GAUBATZ at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City; this union would be blessed with four children.

In her early years Marla enjoyed bowling but was also a gifted artist and seamstress and had a sharp eye for photography. She loved working in her garden, canning vegetables, and preparing meals large enough to feed an army! She also liked playing cards, especially Grudge, and Gin, and liked to solve crossword puzzles.

What Marla will be most remembered for, however, was her caring nature. She always put the needs of others before her own and would help anyone that asked.

For the past eleven years Marla has been employed at The Fashion Bug in Mason City.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City and a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manly.

Those grateful in sharing in her life are her husband, James, Plymouth; her children, Monica (Roy PENNING) HAXTON, Mason City, Tina GAUBATZ, Mason City, Joseph (Kimberly) GAUBATZ, Mason City, and Nicole GAUBATZ, Mason City; her grandchildren, Erin GRIMM, Kaitlyn HAXTON, Heather, Justin, and Bobbie Jo BRADY, Gabby and Grady GAUBATZ, and Kyle PRAHM; her great-grandchildren, Gwendolyn and Gavin GRIMM, and Ellie DAHL; her siblings, Mike BALEK, Jenny Ann SPEAKAR, Pat BALEK, Becky KNUTSON, David KING, and Sheila FRANSEN; her special friend, Mavis DEARDEUFF; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapels in charge of arrangements.
