Miss Theresa Dougherty, 87, Succumbs

Miss Theresa DOUGHERTY, 87, pioneer resident of Dougherty, died at a nursing home in Rockwell Wednesday night following a long illness.

Miss DOUGHERTY was born Aug. 27, 1868, at Dougherty, daughter of Daniel and Mary (GALLAGHER) DOUGHERTY. She was one of 15 children of the family, and the twin sister of the late Rt. Rev. Msr. Edward J. DOUGHERTY, founder of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. He preceded her in death in March 1951 while pastor of Sacred Heart Church of Waterloo.

Miss DOUGHERTY and her sister, Margaret DOUGHERTY, who survives, made their home in Dougherty. She is also survived by another sister, Mary WADE, Chicago, and by a brother, Joseph DOUGHERTY, Butte, Mont., and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and two sisters.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dougherty.

Funeral services have been set tentatively for Saturday morning at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dougherty. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Dougherty. Friends may call at the Colonial Funeral Home in Mason City until noon Friday and after that at the DOUGHERTY residence in Dougherty.

Miss Theresa K. Dougherty Service Held
Solemn requiem high Mass was celebrated for Miss Theresa K. DOUGHERTY, 87, Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dougherty. Father A. A. McAVOY was celebrant.

Father Peter BODENSTEINER, of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mason City, was deacon and Father Harold DREXLER, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell, was sub-deacon. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Edward O'HAGEN, Waterloo, was present in the sanctuary. Father A. A. McAVOY gave the sermon.

Acolytes were Dick KNOLL and Ronald RIGGINS; Daniel DOUGHERTY was thurifer. St. Patrick's School Choir sang the Mass. Patricia MURPHY was organist.

Pallbearers were Robert DOUGHERTY, E. G. DOUGHERTY, Clarke DOUGHERTY, James I. DOUGHERTY, Ray HOGAN and Vern RIGGINS. Burial was at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Dougherty. The Colonial Funeral Home was in charge.
