Janice Doane, 71, of rural Thornton passed away Saturday, October 3, 2020 from injuries sustained in an explosion at her home.

A memorial mass for Janice and Melissa will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 Elm Street, Rockwell with Rev. John Gossman officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Major Erickson Funeral Home Facebook page.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 27th at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City with a rosary at 3:15 P.M. followed by a Scriptural wake service at 3:30 P.M.

Masks are required at the visitation and memorial service.

Janice Marie Doane, the daughter of Alva and Irene (Sukup) Timmerman, was born January 3, 1949 at Hampton. She attended Sacred Heart School in Rockwell and graduated from Newman High School in 1967. Janice graduated from NIACC in Mason City and worked at United Dairy. On April 12, 1975 she was married to Larry Doane at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell. They lived on a farm south-west of Thornton where they raised their two children. Besides helping on the farm, Janice also was a speech coach at SCMT. She enjoyed quilting, stamping, woodworking, knitting and crocheting.

She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, belonged to a quilting group in Clear Lake and was a past member of the Thornton Lioness Club.

Janice is survived by her husband, Larry Doane of Thornton, IA; son, Matthew Doane of Great Falls, MT; grandchildren, Magdalena and Oliver Doane of Great Falls, MT; sister, Barbara Benham (Richard) of Buffalo, MN; two sisters-in-law, Karen Quinlan of Swaledale, IA, and Nancy Timmerman of Plymouth, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

Her daughter, Melissa “Missy” Doane of Thornton, IA followed her in death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Dale Timmerman; and her brother-in-law, Jim Quinlan.
