Melissa “Missy” Doane, 40, of Thornton passed away Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from injuries sustained in an explosion that occurred Saturday, October 3, 2020 at her parent’s home near Thornton.
A memorial mass for Janice and Melissa will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 Elm Street, Rockwell with Rev. John Gossman officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Major Erickson Funeral Home Facebook page.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 27th at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City with a rosary at 3:15 P.M. followed by a Scriptural wake service at 3:30 P.M.
Masks are required at the visitation and memorial service.
Melissa Irene Doane, the daughter of Larry and Janice (Timmerman) Doane, was born February 22, 1980 in Mason City, IA. She graduated from SCMT in 1998 and continued her education in ag studies, graduating from Kirkwood Community College. After college, she returned home to help her parents on the farm and assist them in farm machinery sales. She enjoyed her dog Jax, collecting cast iron and taking care of her cattle and sheep.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Missy is survived by her father, Larry Doane of Thornton, IA; brother, Matthew Doane of Great Falls, MT; a niece and nephew, Magdalena and Oliver Doane of Great Falls, MT; aunts and uncle, Karen Quinlan of Swaledale, IA, Nancy Timmerman of Plymouth, MN, and Barbara (Richard) Benham of Buffalo, MN; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Janice; and two uncles, Jim Quinlan and Dale Timmerman.
