THORNTON - Mary Alberta (Madden) Floy, 71, of Thornton, died Friday (April 14, 2000) at her winter residence in Weslaco, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake, with the Monsignor Robert Hogan officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapels, 101 N. Fourth St., with a 7 p.m. scriptural wake service.

Memorials may be given to the Mary A. Floy Memorial Fund.

Mary was born Nov. 3, 1928, in the family farm house in Dougherty, the daughter of Thomas and Regina (Hogan) Madden. She graduated from Holy Family High School in 1946.

Following graduation she attended and graduated from St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in 1949. She started working at Mercy Hospital in Mason City.

She married Delbert Floy on Sept. 8, 1951, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. They lived in the Thornton area. In 1955 she again worked at Mercy Hospital and the last ten years as a public health nurse in Cerro Gordo County until her retirement.

Mary and Delbert have been visiting the Rio Grande Valley for more than 20 years, but for the last 10 years have spent the winters in Weslaco, Texas.

She enjoyed golf, painting and crafts. But her real passions were her family and fishing.

Mary was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake, and the Women's Club in Thornton.

Mary is survived by her husband, Delbert Floy, of Thornton; three children, Chris Floy and his wife, Jennifer, of Thornton, Stephanie Nelson and her husband, Mark, of Ames, and Regina Toresdahl and her husband Larry, of Clear Lake; two sisters, Rosalie Woodhouse, of Mason City and Jean Bamrick and her husband, Joe, of Rockwell; two brothers, Tom Madden and his wife, Eleanor, of Mason City and John Madden and his wife, Barb, of Overland Park, Kan.; five grandchildren, Shennen Floy, Jonathan Nelson, Katy Nelson, Gerilynn Toresdahl and Barney Toresdahl.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Joe Madden, Russell Madden and an infant brother Raymond Madden.
