GREENE- Kathryn M. Merfeld, 68, of Greene, died Sunday (Dec. 13, 1987) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene. The Rev. Wilfred W. Schmidt will officate, with burial in St. Patrick's cemetery at Dougerty.

She was born Nov. 9, 1919, in rural Scott Township, Floyd County, to Jacob and Helen (McKigney) Ewen.
She attended rural Scott township schools and graduated from St. Patrick's High School at Dougherty in 1936.

She remained in the Dougherty area until her marriage to Vern Merfeld on Feb. 15, 1939, at Dougherty.

Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the rural Marble Rock area and later in the Greene and Dougherty area for 30 years. They moved into Green in 1971.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene, A.C.C.W., and St. Lucy's Circle.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene. A Scripture service will be held at 7:30 tonight followed by a rosary at the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband, Vern of Greene; five daughters, Mrs Donald (Betty) Staudt, Dougherty; Mrs Anthony (Barb) Budak, Waterloo; Mrs Richard (Alice) Oswald, Madison, Conn.; Mrs Sal (Ann) Cracco, Toms River, N.J.; and Mrs James (Veronica) Fink, Waverly; two sons, Tom of Rudd and James of Sheffield; three sisters, Mrs Albert (Hannah) Jensen, Mrs Emil(Helen) Engles and Mrs. Francis (Agnes) Foxen, all of Rockford; two brothers, Walter Ewen, ALgona and Leo Ewen,
Clear Lake and twenty-two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son and two brothers.
