Retired Farmer Dies at Home in Dougherty

Dougherty- John Merfeld, Sr., 76, retired farmer, died of a heart attack on his farm northeast of Dougherty while loading corn Thursday at 2:45 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick's church at 10 a.m. Monday Archbishop H. P. Rohlman of Dubuque in charge.
Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery.

Mr. Merfeld was born in Germany March 17, 1870, and came with his family to the United States in 1871.
They lived on a farm northeast of Marble Rock.

He had been a resident of Dougherty about 40 years.

Surviving are the widow, three daughters and six sons.
