Death of Matilda Marzen (Aug. 9, 1916)

What proved to be an awful accident happened last Thursday evening when Matilda Marzen who lived four miles East of Dougherty, and who has lived the past summer with her sister, Mrs. Schultz was driving home from that place, where she had been helping with the house work while they were threshing.
She had left her sister's place at 8 o'clock and about ten minutes later was found by the roadside by Mrs Fred Losse who heard her moaning and called her husband.

She was at once taken to their home and Dr. O'Keefe of Marble Rock was summoned to render medical assistance.
It is supposed that an auto struck the wheel of her buggy, as indications point strongly that way, although nothing has been found out for certain, but if such is the case the quilty party or parties should be punished to the full extent of the law.
All that medical skill could do to save her life proved of no avail, and she passed peacefully away at 3:30 this morning.

Miss Marzen was a bright and cheerful girl, always looking at the bright side of life and her death, coming in such a terrible manner is a shock to the family and relatives that only time will overcome. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances, as everyone who knew her was her friend.

Miss Marzen was twenty-two years old at the time of her death, and a death coming as did this one, when one is so young in life is very sad.

Her mother was called on sometime ago to mourn the loss of her husband who was killed in an accident, and now that she is called on again to mourn the loss of her daughter, it is a grief that she can hardly bear.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.
The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the family and relatives in this the time of their deepest affliction.
