Michael Mitchell Dead (Mar. 21, 1913)

An oak of the forest has fallen. For four score years it had stood up against time, with all it's varied elements of destruction. Time however won out at last as it also does.

It witnessed the death of Michael Mitchell on Good Friday last. For a year or more, saw the oak, in physical and religious strength yield gradually to the touch of years.

There could be no doubt about the result.
The storms of destruction were constant and involved every member. A vigourous constitution was steadily breaking down before them and when the end came on Friday, it was not unexpected and was a happy release, to a soul well prepared for the journey into eternity, and to a body worn out and exhausted from the long fight.

Michael Mitchell was a pioneer in Iowa. He saw it in it's wild state, clothed in it's full prairie garments. It's looks were not very inviting. Many a man less brave, became discouraged at them and returned whence he came.
Not so, him who is now numbered with the dead.

With his strong, characteristic will, and stout heart, he resolved to make his home in Iowa.
His reward was ample. He lived to see the state he had chosen for his life activities blossom and bloom as a second Eden and within it's bosom in St. Patrick's cemetery, his body is now resting, awaiting the Arch-angels call.

In the midst of his cares and anxieties, Mr. Mitchell never forgot the duties he owned to God.
To these he was faithfull, in season and out of season. His nature was deeply saturated with his religon and makes one suspect it was an inheritance, with which St. Patrick was well pleased and which bore the stamp of his approval, as a consequence.

Every preparation was made and when death came, it found Mr. Mitchell ready with the lamps well and carefully trimmed.

Mr. Mitchell leaves two sons to mourn his loss.
He died at Ed's home where all that loving hands could do was done.
He was buried Easter Sunday from St. Patrick's church and laid to rest beside his wife, who went before him three years ago.
May he rest in peace.
