Contributions in Jacque’s memory may be made to organizations she cared about including Animal Rescue League, arl-iowa.org, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, plannedparenthood.org, Hospice of North Iowa, mercynorthiowa.com.

Jacque was born to Shirley and Howard Hurley on June 8, 1931 in Mason City, Iowa. She graduated from Mason City High School and then attended Iowa State University. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Buena Vista and a Master’s degree, also in Nursing, from the University of Minnesota. Jacque married John F. (Jake) Burke on July 11, 1953.

For over 30 years she was an ICU, Planned Parenthood, and public health nurse in Mason City. She was passionate about people having access to good health care. As a nurse she cared for many and took pride in bringing her patients back to health.

Jacque loved sewing, knitting, cooking, refinishing furniture, her dogs, and in her younger days, twirling around the Surf Ballroom to big band music. She made sure our home was always filled with snacks and that our friends found 191 N. Crescent Drive to be a place where they were always wanted and welcomed.

She always had a positive spirit and a smile on her face.

We will miss her laugh, her warmth, and her love of her family and friends.

We were all blessed to call her Mom, Grandma, and Aunt.

She is survived by her two children, son, Tom, (Peggy) and their sons Colin and Jake Burke (spouse Taylor), and daughter Shawn (Paul Scott) and their three children Caroline, Meredith and Burke Scott.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Jake, and her daughter, Staci Burke.

We’d like to thank all the nurses and doctors at Wesley Acres for their kind care over the years.
