October 14, 1996CLEAR LAKE --- Mrs. Betty Mae Brood, 67, of 1208 Seventh Place N., died Saturday (Oct. 12, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Swaledale. Visitation begins after 4 p.m. Monday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St.
The family suggests memorials to the Betty Mae Brood Memorial Fund.
Betty was born in Ventura February 06, 1929, the daughter of Roy and Martha Jane (Paulsen) Rowe. She graduated from Swaledale High School in 1948. Betty married Hans "Jim" Brood on Feb. 20, 1949, in Thornton. They lived in the Swaledale area until 1958 they then moved to Clear Lake. They moved back to Swaledale in 1972 and then back to Clear Lake in 1985. She worked at E.F. Johnson in Clear Lake and later IMI Cornelius in Mason City until her retirement in 1992.
Betty enjoyed having her children and grandchildren around her and collecting dog figurines. She was a member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church and a life member of Clear Lake VFW Auxiliary.
Betty is survived by her husband, Hans "Jim'" Brood of Clear Lake; mother, Martha Paulsen of Clear Lake; seven children, Marilyn "Kay" Howe of Blue Springs, Mo.; Linda Brood of Clear Lake; Jake Brood and his wife, Theresa, of Swaledale, Sandy Brood of Clear Lake; Pam Huff and her husband, Fred, of Mason City; Sherry Kingston of Joice, and Jamie Eliason and her husband, Jeff, of Kanawha; one sister, Norma Jean Kofoed of Clear Lake; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and one infant son, John.
