November 21, 1995MASON CITY --- Ethel L. Beed, 100, of Mason City, formerly of Titonka, died Saturday (Nov. 18, 1995) at Good Shepherd Health Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Titonka, with the Rev. Merlin Norris officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Township Cemetery, Titonka. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Titonka.
Ethel L. Beed was born July 2, 1895, in Winslow, Ill., the daughter of George W. and Mary (Foley) Kennedy. She attended school in Winslow, Ill.
On June 8, 1914, she was united in marriage to Harry Beed in Boone. Her husband preceded her in death on May 13, 1979.
After their marriage, the couple lived in Hampton until 1928. From 1928 until 1948, they operated the Beed Hardware store in Titonka.
After the death of her husband, Ethel moved to Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge and lived there until her health failed. She then lived with her daughter, Helen Schram and most recently at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.
She was past president of the United Methodist Women, member of the Legion Auxiliary, Titonka Women's Club and was active in community affairs.
She is survived by one daughter, Helen Schram and her husband, Wilbur, of Clear Lake; one son, Charles Beed and his wife, Jean, of Green Valley, Ariz.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Corrine Albright of Waterloo; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one grandchildren, Jeffrey Schram; two brothers, Hugh and Kenneth Kennedy; and four sisters, Gladys Kingsberry, Margaret Caton, Lois Lolare and Coralyn Ward.
