Obituary ~ Betty J. (Watson) Boyer
November 25, 1925 ~ June 15, 2018

The Globe Gazette
Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa
Thursday, June 24, 2018

Betty was born on November 25, 1925 in Grant City, Missouri, the daughter of Sylvanus and Emma (Queen) Watson. She attended Grant High School. In February 1959 Betty married Everett Boyer in St. Joseph, Missouri. She embraced her husband's wonderful family and treasured her 60 year loving relationship with her beloved husband Everett. Betty identified her most important role in life was being mom and grandma. Her family says Job Well Done!

Betty stayed at home where she lovingly raised her children until they became school age, after which she worked for decades with Everett running their family business Boyer Music on Delaware downtown.

Betty's passions included flowers and gardening, music, dancing and concerts (including the many dances where her husband's band played over the years), volunteering, and family. She especially loved the farm where she and Everett lived for many years, and helping with the grandchildren she so dearly loved. She was an entirely selfless person, always prioritizing others over herself.

For over 30 years Betty operated what she called her “Santa Project”, which provided clothing and gifts to children and families in need. Betty solicited many family, friends and supporters to assist with this worthy project. She relished the appreciation of the children she met in doing this. Betty never knew a stranger and went out of her way (at times going without things for herself) to help others in need throughout her years. Her generosity benefited many over her lifetime. Betty was always optimistic and a pleasure to be with, literally to her dying day. She felt that she lived a wonderful life. She valued and appreciated every day. She and her daughter Kristy traveled together to England and she enjoyed also family trips to Arizona, Missouri, California, Texas and Florida. The Sunday family brunches she and Everett hosted over many years were a family highlight as were holidays with Betty and Everett.

Betty died June 15, 2018 at Hospice of North Iowa where she received excellent care until her passing. She was age 92 and had for years talked about going home to be with God. Betty's loving family include her husband , Everett, Mason City; daughter, Kristy (Steve) Arzberger, rural Plymouth; son, Brian (Joni) Boyer, Des Moines; grandchildren, Zane Arzberger, Vanessa and her husband Levi Hanson, and Sydney and Halle Boyer.

She is preceded in death by her parents, (including Marvin and Crystal Boyer, Everett's parents whom she considered her own mom and dad) and her 9 brothers and sisters.

Betty's wish was to be cremated. Her Memorial Service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday June 30, 2018 with visitation beginning at 11:30 am prior to the service, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE., Mason City. (641)423-2372. ColonialChapels.com
