Darlene (Dobbs) Bieber, 88, of Clear Lake passed away Friday, May 11, 2018, at home surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, with Chaplain Art Zewert officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery following services. Following the burial, the family will host a luncheon.

Memorial contributions can be directed to the North Iowa Humane Society or Hospice of North Iowa.

Darlene was born November 22, 1929 in Charles City, the daughter of Roy and Juanita (Waters) Dobbs. She attended Roosevelt School for two years in Mason City before moving back to Clear Lake where she took great pride in being a CL Lion’s cheerleader in high school and graduated in the class of 1947. Darlene attended Hamilton Business College for one year.

She worked at Imperial Seed Company and then was united in marriage to Garfield “Gar” Bieber June 2, 1951 in Biloxi, Mississippi and to this union six children were born.

Darlene moved around to several states while Gar was enlisted in the air force. While stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas, Darlene worked at Convair Aircraft Company making B-36 bombers. Darlene returned to Clear Lake to raise their children while Gar was stationed in Puerto Rico.

Darlene was a kind, caring mother always there to listen, understand and help in making things better for her family. She was known to say what was on her mind at times and then occasionally regretting it later, but we always knew that was just mom. She believed family takes care of one another through adversity and she believed God carried her during those difficult times in her life. Darlene was a giver all her life, never asked for much from others, but enjoyed the simplicities of life.

Darlene loved her animals especially dogs and cats, baking goodies, flowers, playing cards, watching her favorite tv shows and sports. Above all, her greatest joy came from the time spent with her family throughout the years.

Left to cherish her memory are her six children, Doug Bieber, of Clear Lake, John Bieber, of Clear Lake, Craig Bieber, of Ft. Collins, CO, Debbie (Richard) Menges, of Mason City, Steve (Collette) Bieber, of Clear Lake, Pam (Dwayne) Kearns, of Mason City; ten grandchildren, Philip (Mary) Bieber, Angela (Mike)Lundberg, Lori (Raymon) Guzman, Sheila (Gilbert) Guzman, Jesse Tamez, Dustin Bieber, Drew (Megan) Bieber, Brittany Bieber, Lindsay Kearns and Natalee Kearns; seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

She is preceded in death by husband, Gar Bieber; her parents, Roy Dobbs and Juanita Burns; step father, Thomas Burns; sister Roylene and extended family members.
