LeRoy Burton Geving was born November 17, 1924, at Kensett, Iowa, to Benhard and Elvina (Peterson) Geving. LeRoy's father died when he was 3 years old and he was raised in Mason City by his mother and loving step-father, Alvin Hanson. He was a member of the Mason City High School Class of 1943. He then enlisted in the United States Army. Following his discharge, LeRoy attended Mason City Junior College. On October 17, 1948, LeRoy was united in marriage to Donna Peery at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason City. In 1948, he began working for Deckers (Armour) in Mason City. LeRoy was transferred and the couple moved to New Hampton, Eagle Grove, and Algona. LeRoy retired in 1985, and the couple moved back to Mason City where he worked part-time for Farm and Home Publishing. They moved back to Algona in June, 2006. LeRoy became a resident of the Algona Manor Care Center in Algona in August, 2008, and died there on Saturday afternoon, October 11, 2008, at the age of 83.

LeRoy enjoyed hunting in his younger years and later enjoyed fishing and golfing.

LeRoy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason City.

Survivors include his wife Donna of Algona, son Jay Geving and wife Bonny of Algona and daughter Norma and husband Phil Lovstad of Burt, Iowa as well as four grandchildren Dr. Jeffrey Geving and wife Gina and Jason Geving and wife Nicole and Jordan and Shelby Lovstad, and two great grandchildren, Bennita and Griffin Geving. Also surviving are brothers and sister, Burnell Geving and wife Yvonne of Mason City, Iowa, Beverly and husband Ramon Long of Underwood, Minnesota and Ron Hanson and wife Sharon of Coralville, Iowa. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Paula, his grandson Benjamin Geving and two sisters in infancy.
