MASON CITY - Guadalupe "Lupe" Garza, 87, of 1520 N. Madison Ave., Mason City, died Friday (May 1, 2009) at her home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 4, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave, Mason City, with the Rev. Jon Seda officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, with a rosary and wake service at 6:15 p.m.

Lupe was born on Dec. 12, 1921, in Ario Santo Monica Michoasan, Mexico, the daughter of Francisco and Catalina (Amuesca) Servantez. She moved to Mason City at the age of six months, where she lived the rest of her life.

Lupe was united in marriage to Ysabel "Charles" Garza on Oct. 7, 1949, in Des Moines. She was one of the first women in Mason City to deliver telegrams for Western Union. Lupe also worked at Decker Meat Packing Plant for 14 years. She then worked at the bakery at Easters before becoming a full-time babysitter for her grandchildren.

She loved babies and cooking every Sunday for her family. She enjoyed flowers, music, hummingbirds and most of all her family. Lupe was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Charles; children, Richard and Robert (Cindy) Garza of Mason City; grandchildren, Adrian (Sherri) Garza of Kansas City, Jaclyn (James) Joachim of Jewell, Jessie Garza of Iowa City, Raymond (Jessi) Garza of Mason City and Ryan (Melissa) Garza of Mason City; stepgrandchildren, Jeremy and Shelby Johnson of Mason City; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Mike (Virginia) and Tony (Mary) Servantez; sisters, Hazel Rubio and Elenore Baltierra; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ramon; and brothers, Frank and Jule.
