MASON CITY — Roger Gaillard, 75, of 4 Third St. N.W., Apt. 450, died Wednesday (May 13, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kathy Graves, Chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa in his memory.

Roger Gaillard was born Aug. 1, 1922 to Roger and Rachel Gaillard in Franklin, N.H. He graduated from Concord High School and entered the United States Navy serving in the Pacific during World War II.

He married Faith Severance on Jan. 23, 1942 in Lebanon, N.H. The Navy then transferred him to Washington, D.C. where he taught fire control at the Naval Training Center.

From there he moved to West Chicago, Ill. and began working with American Can Company and transferred to various cities in the U.S., retiring after 24 years. He then worked for Fort Dodge Laboratories as maintenance supervisor for seven years. He then relocated to Mason City to live in the Manor, near family.

He served as Commander of the American Legion in West Chicago, Ill. and Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was president of the Fort Dodge Bowling Association and the Bowling Hall of Fame. He liked to golf and was an avid sports enthusiast. He made a difference in many people's lives and will be greatly missed by all.

Family includes his wife, Faith "Pug" Gaillard, of Mason City; three sons, Tom R. and Donna Gaillard, of Manson, Iowa, Frank and Nancy Gaillard, of Excelsior, Minn., and Peter and Pam Gaillard, of the Woodlands, Texas; two daughters, Trish Gaillard, of Mason City, Iowa and Pam and Mark Mueller, of Mason City, Iowa; 16 grandchildren, Michael, Richard, Michelle, Mark, Brad, Aaron, Nick, Stacey, Danielle, Stephanie, Angie, Brittany, Matthew, Amanda, Jaymie and Meagan; seven great-grandchildren, Brittany, Curtis, Brian, Stephanie, Benjamin, Jacob and Malachi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George and John Gaillard.
