Mason City — Shirley A. Solberg, 88, of Mason City, died Saturday (Dec. 4, 2010) at her home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with Pastor Jeni Bohls officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Monday, Dec. 6, at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to St. James Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Shirley was born on July 13, 1922, in Mason City, the daughter of Harold and Beatrice (Crumb) Marsh. She graduated from Manly High School in 1940.

She was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Olson on Sept. 1, 1940, in Osage. Kenneth was killed in the battle of Iwo Jima on February 20 1945.

She married Alf A. Solberg on March 23, 1948, in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Shirley worked as a waitress at Jefferson Bus Depot and the Green Mill for many years. She also worked as a clerk/buyer for Damon's until it closed. She retired in 1997 after working many years for Sears. Shirley enjoyed her beautiful flower garden and loved sharing her flowers with family and friends. She was also an avid quilter.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Steve Olson and wife, Ellen Montgomery, David Solberg and wife, Janet; grandchildren, Chris Boyken, Randy Olson, Richard Montgomery, Kelly Biery, Justin Olson, Jason Olson, Samantha Olson, Shane Solberg, Jeremy Solberg; fifteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Roger Marsh; sister in law, Delores Marsh; many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Kenneth and Alf; brothers, Harold and Gordon Marsh; sisters, Evelyn Beery, Pat McCormick; sons, Larry and Danny; daughter, Janice, in infancy.

Arrangements were handled by at Major Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 641-423-0924.
