Gwendolyn G. Schaer began her heavenly life on April 4, 2015, at the Muse - Norris Inpatient Hospice Unit at the age of 87.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Faith Baptist Church, 1807 S. Kentucky Ave., Mason City, Iowa, with Pastor Scott Onofrio officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Memorial contributions can be directed to the family, Hospice of North Iowa, or Faith Baptist Church in Mason City.

Gwen was born to Ben and Oval (Scobee) Harriott on Nov. 28, 1927 in Mason City. She attended Mason City Schools. She was united in marriage to Lawrence A. Schaer on Oct. 28, 1944. In this union of 56 years, three children were born, Cheryl, Larry and Amy.

Gwen’s greatest passion in life was serving her Lord. She played piano and organ at church for 35 years. She and Lawrence spent 37 years farming and raising dairy cattle. She spent many hours tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and preserving produce. She was an active seamstress and quilter.

Her hobbies included music, cooking, baking, reading and playing games. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, family members and friends.

Gwen is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Glenn, of Longmont, Colo., and Amy (Chad) Kuhlers, of Clear Lake; three grandchildren, Heather (Matt) Bahr of Centennial, Colo., Christopher Kuhlers and Anthony Kuhlers, both of Clear Lake; and great-grandson, Benjamin Bahr. She will be missed by her brothers, Keith (Clarice) Harriott of Lakeland, Fla.; and Ora (Robin) Stossivich Sarasota, Fla.; sisters, Karen (LaVern) Vaage and Linda (Larry) Zimmerman, both of Mason City; and many other relatives.

Gwen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence Schaer; son, Larry Schaer; and several siblings and relatives.

Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, was in charge of arrangements.
