CHARLES DOUGHERTY PASSED AWAY SATURDAY AFTER MUCH SUFFERING. (1920)
Death- No respector of persons age or time-travels about the world, reaping its plentiful harvest without ever taking rest. It takes the infant from the mother's arms, the youth from his play, the adult from usefulness, the husband from the wife and the father from his family. It may be in the springtime when all nature is recovering from the bounds of winter, or putting on his cheerful garments; it may be in summer when all living things are chanting in endless chorus their happy feelings, or it may be in winter when the earth looks dreary, crowned perhaps with snow and the north winds are playing their weird and warning notes through the leafless branches. It may be in the lonesomeness of the night or while we behold the sun crossing from east to west.

At 11:30 A. M. last Saturday it visited Charles Dougherty and called him home. The arrival was expected. Children, Brothers and Sisters were assembled- they knew the end was near, and while helpless in the presence of death, with broken hearts and tear dimmed eyes, they did all that was possible to make the ebbing life of husband, father and brother as comforting and consoling as possible. Death, too was tender on the occasion. It stole the soul so quietly that one could not tell when time ended and eternity began.
Charles Dougherty lived through 64 years. He was born in Norristown, Penn. December 23, 1856. In the arms of his mother he was borne to Iowa in 1857. On November 25, 1877, he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Kennedy at Mason City, and in the lady of his choice found a loyal helpmate in all the ups and downs of life
and whose presence in the house was always sunshine and warmth.
