Joyce Marilyn (Sutton) Hartwell March 28, 1926 - January 18, 2018

Joyce Marilyn (Sutton) Hartwell, 91, of Mason City, IA died Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St SE, Mason City. Reverend Kent A. Mechler will be officiating.

Interment will follow at Park Cemetery in Nora Springs, IA.

Joyce was born on March 28, 1926 in Nora Springs; the daughter of Minnie (Lau) and Earl A. Sutton. Joyce was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1944 and attended graduate classes at North Iowa Community College and Iowa State University, where she received certification in business and government. Joyce was a city clerk in Nora Springs from 1968 to 1991 during this time she was one of the first city clerks to leave to be certified as an international municipal city clerk.

Joyce also worked in advertising at Dr. Salisbury Laboratories in Charles City from 1944 to 1950. She retired as city clerk and moved to Mason City, where she became a member of St. James Lutheran Church. Joyce was also a member of Hope Circle, Mason City Women's Club and North Iowa Genealogy Association.

She is survived by daughters, Barbara (William) Bowen of Mason City and Judith (Charles) Stack of Las Vegas, NV; son, David (Sue) Hartwell of Iowa City, IA; twin sister, Shirley Madsen; grandchildren: Kate Bowen (Seth) Schultz, Rachel Bowen and Reed (Britney) Bowen; step-grandchildren: Andrew Roberge and Jamie (Amy) Butters; great-grandchildren, Mathew and Chloe Stephens, Calla and Roman Roberge and Ruth, Zoe and Bebe Butters.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Raymond, Edward “Dale” and Bob Sutton.
