George Samuel McBride, Jr, 69, of Mason City, and Startzville, Texas, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at the North East Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

A funeral service for George will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Following the visitation, cremation will take place with inurnment in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, and one hour prior to service time on Friday at the chapel.

George Samuel McBride, Jr, was born in Charles City, Iowa the son of George McBride, Sr, and Betty (Foutz) McBride. George received his education in the Mason City Schools, graduating from Mason City High School.

George drove a semi-tractor trailer truck throughout the United States for National Van Lines for many years, and for Stockberger Transportation Company. He also worked for Curries Manufacturing in Mason City, and other companies in the North Iowa area. In 1997, he moved to Minneapolis, and managed apartment complexes before moving to Des Moines. George also delivered newspapers in several communities.

He was united in marriage to Sharon Shreve on June 1, 1991, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City.

George loved driving school buses in Clear Lake, and the students affectionately called him “Grandpa George”. He also drove school buses in many other communities. George also loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, traveling, dancing, singing and cooking, but his great love and enjoyment was his family, especially his grandchildren. The last few years, George enjoyed traveling with his wife Sharon throughout the United States.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharon McBride of Startzville, Texas; his children, Carrie (Douglas) Peck of Altoona, Chad (Stacy) McBride of Ankeny, Travis (Tamara) McBride of Mason City, Jason (Crystal) McBride of North Port, Florida, Leslie (Chad) Lybarger of Mason City, and Justin McBride of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; stepchildren include Candee (Lloyd) Schambers of Mason City, and Carol (Brad) Frerichs of Alexander; his grandchildren, Courtney Peck, Shaun and Calean, Dylan, Brandon, Michael, Nathan, Cassidy, Ashley, Amber, and Ethan McBride, Lukas, Jakob, and Alicyn Lybarger; his stepgrandchildren, Janelle (Travis) Finton, Jon Peck and significant other, Janell Karow, Chelsea (Joel) Inskeep, Kaleb Kern, Taylor Toothman, and Chance Frerichs; and great-grandchildren; his sister, Patricia McBride of Ankeny; and his special dog, Belle; as well as his nieces and other extended family members and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Patricia; and sisters-in law.
