Ardella Mae 'Belseth' Shannon December 9, 1931-November 30, 2017

Our Dear Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma Ardella Shannon has spent the last 85 years, 356 days sharing her smile, attitude and loving ways with those of us lucky enough to have had her in our lives. We are pleased to announce that after a brief stay at Hospice, she has moved on to share the same with those waiting for her in heaven.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church, 722 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with Rev. Neil Manternach officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Friday, December 1, 2017 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St, NE, Mason City, Iowa, with a Scriptural Wake service beginning at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Ardella Shannon Memorial Fund.

A lifelong resident of Mason City, Mom graduated from Mason City High School, Class of 1949. She married Dad (W.P. Shannon) November 5, 1953 and together had a litter of seven children.

Our mom enjoyed reading, playing cards and socializing with all her friends at The Manor and Cornerstone Assisted Living until dementia slowly robbed her of her memory. She had a green thumb and loved her flower gardens until being rescued in a boat during the Great Flood of '08. We hope the dogs in the new dog park enjoy running and pooping where Mom's beautiful flowers used to brighten up the neighborhood. Our Mom had a great sense of humor (and a crap load of patience), Necessities when it came to raising the seven of us! Mom enjoyed her monthly Sunday outing with the In-laws (passing most of Harry's Guess Who questions!).

She was involved in The Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW holding numerous local, district and state offices. Another passion of Mom's was the Voice of Democracy Program, which she and Dad supported for many years. Mom was also a 50 year member of The Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War.

Mom is preceded in death by our dad, William P. (Pat) Shannon, infant son John Edward Shannon, her parents Gladys and Orlando Belseth, sister Ada Jane Belseth and grandchildren Christie Sticha, Chad Petersen, and Tara Jo Shannon.

Mom will be loved and missed by her children: Christina Petersen, Delevan (Annie), Mary Marshall (Robert), Patrick (Marti), Anthony J., William J. II (Lori) and Margaret Blake (Curtis); and grandchildren: Bobby and Jeff Marshall, Shawn, Zacharey and Kori Shannon, Echo Baker, Alissa Kamish, Tiffany Shannon, and Brandon Shannon, Brian Shannon and Nicki, Danny, Ahren and Patience Blake, seventeen grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren, 15 brothers and sisters-in-law, a gazillion nieces and nephews and truthfully everyone who knew or met her.
