Angelica was born Feb. 8, 1948, in Mason City, the daughter of George and Helen (Kentrote) Vlantes. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1966, and continued her education at Mankato State. Angelica was a wonderful homemaker. She taught fashion merchandising and Greek cooking at NIACC. She also worked for the VA Clinic. Angelica was very passionate about helping vets get the care they needed. Kula, as she was known to most, was a member of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. She was also a member of Daughters of the Philoptochos.

Kula cherished the summer she spent in Greece meeting and getting to know her family. Angelica enjoyed spending time with her family — especially her grandchildren, nieces, nephew and all of their children. She would look forward to supporting them at their sporting events and activities. She also enjoyed baking Greek foods and pastries and passing down the traditions she valued dearly. She also enjoyed shopping, watching cooking shows for new ideas and recipes, family get-togethers, and finding the greatest deals on the shopping channels.

Angelica lived the last 14 years of her life to the fullest, despite her disabilities. She never gave up on continuing to do the things she loved most. Being the caretaker of the family was what gave her strength. She never gave into the odds and did not give up on herself or anybody she cared about.

Angelica is survived by her son: Jason (Tammy) Hugi of Mason City and their children: Emily, Lauren, Samantha and Shianne; her daughter: Sarah Wogstad (Jim Wood) and daughter Rhiannon; brother: Nick Vlantes of Mason City and his children: Nicole (Brad) Meyer and their children: Allysa, Taryn, Jayden, Addison and Hadley; Christina (Andrew) DeNio and their children: Ava, Stella, Penelope, Sawyer and Crew; and Travis (Chantel) Vlantes. She is also survived by numerous relatives in Greece.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister-in-law: Darlys Vlantes.

Arrangements are with Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, IA 50401, 641-423-0924, www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com.
