Elsie Hasapopoulos November 5, 1923 - August 18, 2017

Mason City - Elsie Hasapopoulos, 93, of St. Paul Minnesota, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, August 18th, 2017, at the Good Samaritan nursing home in Maplewood, Minnesota.

A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 24, 2017, at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 Second Street S.W., Mason City, with Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, in Mason City.

Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church.

Born November 5th, 1923 in Waterloo, IA, she devoted her life to raising her three sons in Mason City, IA. Her children always came first, and her many struggles were rewarded later in her life with the births of her beautiful and much-loved grandchildren and great grandchildren, who affectionately called her 'Grandy'.

Elsie was a long-time employee of Sears in Mason City, IA, and worked in the credit department for many years. She loved to travel, and visited Greece many times to visit family and friends. She was an avid reader, a master cook and an expert knitter. Her beautiful sweaters, shawls and blankets are considered prized possessions by all who received them. She loved coffee, chocolate and the sun, and always lived her life to the fullest.

Elsie is survived by her son John Hasapopoulos; daughter-in-law Tris Hasapopoulos; grandchildren Vikki (Matt) Abbas, Reenie (Ryan) Melloy, Will (Heidi) Hasapopoulos, Kit (Julian) Barrientos and Callie Hasapopoulos and great-grandchildren, Brysen, Sean, Dean, Brody, Anna, and Valentina.

She was proceeded in death by her sons Dennis and Gregg, her siblings Catherine and John, daughter-in-law Anna, and parents, Dimitra and George Kamaras.

All are invited to attend to celebrate the life of a great and strong woman.
