Greg Allen Hodak, 51, Mason City, died Friday, June 17, 2016, as a result of a motorcycle accident in Mason City.

Visitation for Greg will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2016, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Neil Manternach officiating. There will be military honors at the church on Friday by members of the Mason City Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mason City. Following the funeral mass, cremation will take place with inurnment at a later date in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Greg Allen Hodak was born on June 1, 1965, in Mason City, the son of Peter and Eileen (Conrey) Hodak. Greg attended McKinley Elementary School, Central Catholic School, and graduated from Newman Catholic High School in 1983. Upon graduation from high school, Greg attended N.I.A.C.C. in Mason City.

Greg also served his country. On July 7, 1986, he was inducted into the United States Marines Corp, in Phoenix, AZ, and while in the Marines, he sailed on the U.S.S. Dubuque, and in the Persian Gulf War, until his honorable discharge on May 24, 1990, in Overland Park, KS.

After his honorable discharge, Greg furthered his education at Buena Vista University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business. He later earned his MBA from Drake University in 1997. He began his teaching career at Ellsworth Community College in August 2000, where he was an economics instructor and a coach for the football and cross-country teams. He served on numerous campus committees and was the head of the business department.

His daughter Emily was born in 1999, and second daughter, Alana, was born in 2001.

He was united in marriage to Mary Nettleton on June 23, 2012, in the Newman Chapel.

Greg was a kind and giving person, was a mentor to many, and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time with his family, motorcycling, camping, canoeing and raising his Labrador Retrievers. He will be remembered for his wit, his resiliency, and his zest for life.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Hodak of Mason City; his children, Emily and Alana Hodak, and Sean Blair of Dos Palos, CA, and Gabriel and Annora Lewerke of Mason City; his father, Pete Hodak and companion Jeanette Nelsen of Mason City; his sisters, Robin Fields of Iowa City (and daughters Allison and Mackenzie), and Randi Hodak-Smith of Burleson, TX (and daughter Addison); his father-in-law, Richard Nettleton; brothers and sister-in-law, Pete (Michelle) Nettleton of Kensett, Bill (Nicole) Nettleton of Alexandria, MN, Paul Nettleton of Mason City, Jim (Jana) Nettleton of Des Moines, and Karen Nettleton of Mason City; many special nieces and nephews; and his Yellow Lab, The Outlaw Josey Wales; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Eileen Hodak; uncle, Tim Conrey, and his mother-in-law, Ann Nettleton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Greg Hodak Memorial Fund in care of Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapels, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.
