Betty Jane Walkner, 82, of Rockwell, passed peacefully from this life the morning of December 18, 2013, after a gradual decline in health.

Betty was born on July 6, 1931, to Malvon and Mae (Schrank) Colman in Mason City, Iowa. She was a sister to Clifford, Thomas (Sylvia), Delbert (Mary), Ruby (Marvin Krull) Wineman, and Peter (Patricia) Colman.

She married Harold Walkner on May 9, 1948. They were parents to Alan (Ronnie) Walkner, Jean (Mike) Walker, Rouline (Harold) Bergman, Harold (Ellen) Walkner, Dennis Walkner, Lisa (Chris) Hansen, Micheal (Karon) Walkner and Carla (Tom) Rhinehart. They also had 2 foreign exchange students, Ollie Teijonmaa from Finland and Mike Louw from Belgium.

She worked at Rockwell Nursing Home until retirement. She enjoyed gardening, ceramics, painting, bird watching and her flowers. She loved having pets which included finches, parakeets, cockatiels, fish, dogs and cats over the years.

She has 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was Aunt to many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her brothers Clifford, Thomas and Delbert Colman, her stepson and his wife Alan (Ronnie) Walkner, brother-in-law Dick Wineman and her parents.

Celebration of life will be on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with internment at Memorial Park Cemetery following the services.
