Newell Arthur Trustin, 91, of Mason City, died Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Country Meadow Place Assisted Living in Mason City.

A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, with military honors provided by the Mason City Veterans.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Newell Trustin Memorial Fund.

Newell was born May 19, 1924, the son of Adval and Nettie (Hamson) Trustin in Bricelyn, Minnesota. He married Donnabelle Erickson on Dec. 31, 1948, in Northwood.

Newell grew up and attended school in Mason City. He was a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II. He worked as a carpenter at Mason City Millworks for 19 years, retiring in 1975.

Newell was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of VFW Post 733, both in Mason City. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed wood working, gardening, feeding birds and tinkering in the garage.

Newell is survived by his wife, Donnabelle Trustin of Mason City; four children, Nole (Sherry) Trustin of Parkersburg, Starr Haaland of Mason City, Dana Trustin of Mason City, and Deon (Nikki) Trustin of Mason City; eight grandchildren, Travis, Jason, Daniel, Wesley, Rylee, Codie, Shannon and Daymon; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Helmer Hjelle of Mason City; a sister-in-law, Joanne Hjelle of Mason City; and a very dear friend, Karen Ferrie of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Lillian Marsh, Beverly Smidt, Oscar Hjelle and Bonnie King.
