Tomy L. "Tom" Rick, 54, of Mason City, died Wednesday (April 16, 2014) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City with his family by his side.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday (April 22, 2014) at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., Mason City, with Pastor Jeni Bohls officiating.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held Monday evening (April 21, 2014) from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, and will continue one hour prior to Tom's service at the church on Tuesday.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Tom's name in care of his family.

Tomy Lee Rick was born Aug. 27, 1959, at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, the son of Everett and Ruth (Krukow) Rick. He attended Mason City schools; graduating from Mason City High School among the class of 1977.

On July 20, 1985, he was united in marriage to Diane Smidt in Mason City, they would be blessed with three children; Alicia, Sheila, and Jacob.

Tom was employed with IMI Cornelius for 13 years until he retired due to health concerns.

In his free time Tom could almost always be found outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing and spending countless hours in his garden tending to his flowers. He and Jacob enjoyed playing basketball, kickball and flying sky lanterns together and Tom always made time for their nightly father and son walk around the neighborhood with Jacob. When he wasn't enjoying the outdoors he was cheering on the Minnesota Vikings or watching NASCAR, his all-time favorite driver being Dale Ernhardt.

Family came first and foremost in Tom's life. Whether he be at the Friday night "Pow Wow" with his siblings, Saturday morning junkyard hunts with his brother, or sitting around the campfire playing his guitar for Diane and the kids, he always cherished their time together.

Tom will be remembered for his sense of humor and ability to always keep his friends and family entertained. He was sensitive and sincere, always comforting others in their time of need.

Those grateful in sharing in his life are his wife, Diane Rick, Mason City; his children, Alicia Rick, Omaha, Sheila Rick, Clear Lake, and Jacob Rick, Mason City; his mother, Ruth Rick, Mason City; his siblings, Pam (Anthony) State, Troutdale, Oregon, Brad (Marlene) Rick, Mason City, Stan Rick and his significant other Maureen, Mason City, Christine (Keith) Funk, Mason City, Daniel Rick, Waterford, Conn., and Sue (Dan) Duda, Mason City; as well as his aunts and uncles and many nieces and nephews.

Tom is preceded in death by his father, Everett Rick, his mother in law, Sharon Rittenhouse, and his grandparents.
