Robert Clayton Askildson was born on April 11, 1930 in Leland, IA to Olai and Lillian (Halvorson) Askildson. He attended and graduated from the Forest City High School.

Following high school Robert enlisted in the Air Force on April 14, 1947 where he honorably and faithfully served his country until his honorable discharge on April 15, 1950.

On April 19, 1952 Bob was united in marriage to Joyce Boyle at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mason City and to this union three children were born. Bob and Joyce made their home in Mason City.

For over 35 years Bob was employed by the Mason City Water Department until his retirement as storekeeper. Bob was a man that loved the outdoors; fishing was his passion.

As a young man, he enjoyed hunting and taught his son how to hunt. Every year since 1973 Bob and his family would make multiple trips throughout the year to their favorite fishing resort in Canada. Bob often joked that he would fish for, "anything that would bite." In addition to fishing, Bob's other hobbies were shooting pool, playing cards, especially Pinnacle, doing crosswords, and assembling jigsaw puzzles. He would sit up all night long and watch Western movies with Brenda. He especially loved his yearly trips to Colorado to see his daughter Vickie and her family. He enjoyed watching football and was an Iowa Hawkeye and Minnesota Vikings fan. But Bob's greatest love was his family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, pet cats, and his beloved dog, Corky.

Bob was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and a former Commander of the V.F.W. San Juan Marne Post 733.

Those grateful in sharing in Bob's life are his children, Victoria (David) Askildson-Howard, Boulder, Colorado, Rodney (Mary) Askildson, Mason City and Brenda Askildson, Mason City; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; siblings, Violet Albertson, Forest City, Arlyn (Pat) Askildson, Mason City, and Donald (Verna) Askildson, Mason City; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and many friends.

Preceding Bob in death are his parents; wife, Joyce; siblings, Raymond, Lloyd, Eldon, Dale, and Betty; a grandson, Derek Askildson; and best friend, Dennis (Boney) Bonesack.
