Robert “Bob” Kenneth Lugar, 87, Mason City, died Thursday, July 28, 2016, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at Epiphany Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Neil Manternach officiating.

Inurnment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, 11495 265th St., Mason City, with military honors conducted by members of the Mason City Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Monday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to Epiphany Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church, or to Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City in his memory.

Robert “Bob” Kenneth Lugar was born on Jan. 11, 1929, in Dougherty, the son of Kenneth and Gladys (Cunningham) Lugar. Bob grew up in Portland and graduated from Epiphany Parish St. Joseph Catholic High School in Mason City.

He was united in marriage to Anna Mae Baldwin on May 7, 1951, at the Epiphany Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church and to this marriage four children were born, Robert, Douglas, Michael, and David. On Jan. 15, 1951, at Ft. Des Moines, Bob was inducted into the US Army and served his country honorably and faithfully with the Fifth Army in the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge on Dec. 21, 1952, at Camp Carson, CO.

Bob worked as a cable splicer for 36 years for U.S. West Telephone Co. until his retirement in 1987. After his retirement, Bob helped with the fall harvest for Bob Scott in the Portland area.

Bob enjoyed hunting, camping, going on several trips to Alaska with his family, fixing things, spending time at the family farm rural Portland, going to the stock car races with his son Doug, dancing, and country music, but his greatest love and joy was spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He was a member of Epiphany Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church, and the Mason City Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Anna Mae Lugar of Mason City; his children, Robert “Bob” (Debbie) Lugar of Mason City, Douglas Lugar of Mason City, Michael Lugar of Jacksonville, Florida, and David Lugar of Mason City; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; his brother, William (Jane) Lugar of Mason City; his sister-in-law, Deloris Lugar of La Crosse, WI; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eilene Petersen; brother, Bernard Lugar; and two daughters-in-law, Carrie Lugar and Theresa Lugar.
