Leonel “Leo” Perez Luna, 73, Mason City, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family.

A funeral service for Leo will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Ed Bard officiating.

Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, 11495 265th St., Mason City, with military honors conducted by members of the Mason City Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the chapel.

Leo was born on Aug. 11, 1943, in Britt, the son of Antonio and Ernestina (Perez) Luna. He received his education in the Hayfield Community School System. Leo was inducted into the Navy and served his country honorably and faithfully aboard the U.S.S. Chanticleer until his honorable discharge.

Leo worked as a welder for Mustang Radiator Co., and drove truck for the Holiday Express, and Vandusseldorp Trucking Co. before retiring due to ill health.

Leo enjoyed fishing, playing his guitar, dancing, riding and building motorcycles and hot rods, driving truck, and spending time with his family especially his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Peggy (McCloskey) Luna of Mason City; his children, Cindy (Ernest) Nelson of Minneapolis, MN, Troy Luna of Minneapolis, MN, Lisa Smith of Mason City, Angie (Gabe) Sheahan of Mason City, and Tracy Luna of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; his sisters and brothers, Nancy (Arnie) Wilkerson of Sacramento, CA, Margaret Funk of Mason City, Ralph (Minnie) Luna of Mason City, Joe Luna of Mason City, and David (Joan) Luna of St. Louis, MO, and Linda (Gary) Vandusseldorp of Mason City; many nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Luna; sister, Cruz Garza; and two nephews, Hector and Dennis Luna.
