Clarence Low Jr., 85, Fertile, Iowa, died Monday, April 14, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 18, at the Church of Christ, Fertile, Iowa, with the Rev. Rod Perry officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, where military honors will be conducted by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Memorials may be given to the Clarence Low Jr. Memorial Fund.

Clarence was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Northwood, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Luella (Freeman) Low. He grew up in the Manly, Ventura and Fertile areas. Following school he farmed with his dad and brother. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following an honorable discharge, he came back to Fertile and farmed.

He enjoyed going to the Five Star elevator in Hanlontown and playing Liars at the Liars table in the Fertile Café. He really enjoyed spending time with his family. He had a special relationship with Harold “Sunny” Brunsvold and his family.

Clarence is survived by his brother, Gene (Lois) Low, Fertile; sisters, Beverly (Ralph) Smith, McIntire, and Donna (Earl) Miller, Clear Lake; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Leonard "Buddy” Low, three nephews, two great-nephews and one great-niece.
