Des Moines — Kenton D. Ewing, age 59, of Mason City died Saturday (Jan. 10, 2009) at the V.A. Medical Center in Des Moines. He fought a short but brave battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the Kenton Ewing memorial fund.

Kenton was born on December 23, 1949 in Rapid City, SD, the son of Charles and Carole (Monahan) Ewing. He was a 1968 graduate of Mason City High School. He was very proud to have served his country in the United States Marine Corp. For many years he was an avid weight lifter and the winner of many competitions. Kenton also enjoyed cooking, reading, watching professional racing, and was a life long Green Bay Packers fan.

He is survived by his two daughters: Staci (John) Lloyd of Cresco and Brooke Ewing of Muscantine; one step daughter: April (Dale) Schmitz of Clear Lake; his mother: Carole (Tom) Pinneke of Mason City; his brothers: Gary Ewing of Mason City, Kim Pinneke of Cedar Rapids, and Mick Pinneke of Atlanta, GA; his sisters: Molly (Stuart) Walgren of Cedar Falls, Annette Marshall of Mason city, and Kathy (Craig) Wentworth of Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren; twelve nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father: Charles Ewing, his stepfather: Charles Tom Pinneke, his brother: William Figgins, and his grandparents.
