MASON CITY - Shirley Jean (Wagner) Ewers, 76, of 803 Sixth Place S.E., died Friday (Oct. 31, 2003) at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City after extensive care through Hospice of North Iowa.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street N.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Thomas Healey, chaplain at Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Shirley J. Ewers Memorial Fund.

Shirley was born Aug. 6, 1927, in Conrad, a daughter of Otto and Lucille Wagner. The family moved to Thornton, where Shirley graduated from Thornton High School and later from Hamilton School of Commerce in Mason City.

She was united in marriage to Albert Edward Ewers on June 8, 1947, at her home in Thornton.

Shirley was employed at Northwestern States Portland Cement Co. in Mason City for several years and later worked for the North Iowa Answering Service.

Most of her life was spent as a loving homemaker and right-hand co-worker to her husband, Albert. She also was an avid gardener.

Shirley will be missed by her husband, Albert, of Mason City; her three children, Kae Ann Shannon and her husband, Tom, of Mason City, Kelly Edward Ewers and his wife, Charlene, of Osage, and Karla Jean Quam and her husband, Blake, of Mason City; five grandchildren, Mason and Doug Shannon, Kyle Sandford, and Nicholas and Christopher Quam; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan Shannon and Tierra Keeney-Quam; one sister, Lorraine Rear, of Decorah; two nephews, Gale and Gene Lifka and their families; one aunt, Aleta Larimer, and two cousins, Lynn Larimer and Charla Mooreland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one nephew, and several aunts and uncles.
