March 17, 2015MASON CITY -- Dexter J. Ewers Jr., 77, of Mason City, died Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City due to complications of COPD and emphysema.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery following the service.
Dexter J. Ewers Jr. was born August 8, 1937 to Dexter and Virginia (Englet) Ewers in Mason City, Iowa. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1956, and married Shirley Fish in 1957, to this union four daughters were born. He married Darlene Harms on September 3, 1986.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and mushroom hunter. Dexter also enjoyed gardening, NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Jr., and pro-football. Dexter and Darlene went to Canada every spring and fall and caught big northern. Dexter has been a member of the Moose Lodge since 1984.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Darlene (Harms) Ewers, of Mason City; daughters, Mindy (Bruce) Crum of Nora Springs, Julie Sankey, of Mason City, Shelley (Doug Meling) Bruce of Mason City, Lisa Brinson of Mason City, and Amelia (Greg Hill) Hartema, of Mason City; sister Dixie (Chuck) Kraft of Mason City, and brother, Denny (Lisa) Ewers, of Sheffield; 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dexter and Virginia (Englet) Ewers, and one grandson, Brandon Bruce.
